Well, as a Catholic, Christian we attended and celebrated the first day of Lent at Mass this morning at 9:00AM. While I would've loved to have curled up under the covers and stayed inside on this snowy day, I knew it was important to make the journey to Church - not only because it is a day that marks the beginning of a new church season, but it is a day about sacrifice.
In the Church, we begin our sacrifice by refraining from meat and fasting. This sacrifice is one to bring a personal reflection upon the sacrifice Jesus gave. Now, this blog is not about religion but today really brings to light the attention to sacrifice men and women of this country make every day! I'm sitting in my nice, warm house, with clean running water and electricity. I can heat up a cup of coffee in the microwave and enjoy a hot meal made fresh. The only sacrifice I'm being asked to make is to not eat meat and not eat solids in between meals! How on earth is that sacrifice?
True sacrifice comes from our military men and women, sitting thousands of miles from their home, their families, eating a MRE and only dreaming of a warm bed in a home with running water. They sacrifice their personal freedom to help bring freedom to others, risking life and limb.
Today, we should keep all our military members in our prayers - thank them for the sacrifice they make and work toward making their journey and transition home easier than it has been for those that have arrived home before them. We can make a difference - let's make the One George! Campaign a household phrase - let's thank our men and women for all they do, let's recognize their sacrifice and let them know we care.
