Yes We Can!

Sitting in class the other night, we talked about the "hedgehog" concept - this is the idea a company can go from good to great through a process that we ask ourselves, what are we passionate about, what can you be the best in the world at and what drives your economic engine.

We were given time to think about each of our circles and what we would put in them - I indicated that I was passionate deeply about my family, helping others, education and veteran's benefits. It was really difficult to even come up with something I could be the best in the world at and it was with much relief it could be just our "immediate world" and not the world, world! So I decided I was a good "bridger" and I wasn't sure our facilitator would understand what I meant, but he did and made a point to tell me that was an excellent skill!

For the question, what drives your economic engine - or rather, how would you decide success and it is my thought, if I can change the world for just one person, I would have made a difference. While I'm not ready to say "if I help just one, then I'll be good," brush my hands together and say "ok" - it is more to the point, if I help just one, then I'm ready to help another.

Our local newspaper wrote a story a while back about a young man that was injured in Iraq and he was planning to ask a young gal to marry him. While their plans to be together for life are still in motion, there is a point where he needs around the clock nursing care and he cannot come home because his benefits do not cover more than 15 hours if he gets released from military medical care. So, what can we do? How can we help? Can we raise the money to secure nursing care for him in his own community? Do we push for the military to change their stance and move away from policies based upon wars fought over fifty years ago?

So, do I become hedgehog and find a way to be a bridge for the civilian community to the military community? Do I use my passion to fight for change and use my driving force for changing one life? Do I?

That same night in class we watched the Will.i.am. Obama video, powerful and the message is for change and we can raise up our voices and make change. Yes. We. Can. Yes. We. Can. I'm so on board, to make change, to put my voices with others and demand change.

One George can be our voice, be our mantra. One George - together we can make change. Yes we can!
